Abstract

This paper presents the results of recent research into the reception of the problems of city-dwellers that circulate through the discourse of television news programs. The information analyzed was captured through an ethnographic study carried out in the periphery of Mexico City, in which two communities of subjects live alongside one another, characterized by the contrast in their socioeconomic level and their life styles. The territorial limit between the communities is marked by a fence and a doorway. The intention is to examine the differences that this limit marks, the different interpretations of the news program and the different positions in the city and the social universe.
