El poblamiento de la Zona Metropolitana de la Ciudad de México: análisis y empleo de una tipología explicativa
Keywords:
population, population settlement (poblamiento), typology, marginalization, space, urban expansionAbstract
This work is based on a thesis of the same title prepared for the title of Master in Population Studies at Flacso (Fourth Generation 1999–2001). It examines the relation between socio-demographic and spatial dynamics in the urban expansion of Mexico City. For this purpose several aspects of the demographic component of this process were examined, and a model aimed at synthesizing the ways in which the population has, over the years, created and recreated what is known as the Metropolitan Zone of Mexico City was subjected to critical revision. The relation between socio-demographic and spatial factors points to the importance of considering demographic factors such as age structure and the methodological difficulties that appear when we examine such a complex concept as that of population settlement (poblamiento).
