Abstract

Stemming from the concepts of globalization, internationalization and transnationalization, a threedimensional model is developed linking globalization of capitalism , of national capitalist societies, of markets and of international economy. Also their systemic driving forces are identifited. On that basis, three historic phases in globalization are elucidated and the special characteristics of the present phase are described. The main thesis is that, starting in the general peripheral capitalism crisis in the 1980s, expansiveness of capital accumulation has driven to the collapse of protectionist barriers that politically blocked world free trade and to the simultaneous acceleration of the three dimensions of globalization
