Abstract

This article considers the forms of articulation of informal microbusinesses to productive processes in the context of the aperture of the region's economies, and establishes a typology for them. The analysis indicates that the majority of microbusinesses are inserted in vertical or vertical-subordinate articulations with companies that sell to the lowest income sectors in the local market. There are not many cases of articulation with processes of globalized production and, when these articulations exist, the informal microbusiness is in a position of subordination. The article concludes, therefore, that the informal microbusiness is a subsistence sector.
