Abstract

This essay focuses in different aspects related to the validity of the traditional cleavages postulated by political studies as applied to the Mexican case, in order to determine the extent to which they are capable of explaining the current polarization of the party system. From this perspective, an analysis of the functioning of the ideological and religious cleavage, of the democratic idea and of the politics of the country's economic integration is carried out, using data from a survey of the members of the LVI Congress.
