Abstract

This article discusses, with regards the case of Peru, the impact of the emergence of women in situations of power, particularly considering their influence on the extension (or no) of women's rights in general terms. After reviewing the variety of women in politics today, the article points out the virtues and the limitations of the pattern of including women in the personalized and authoritarian regime of President Fujimori. It also examines to what point the institutional weaknesses, lack of leadership and meager channels of social and political participation that exist in Peru hinder a relation of negotiation between the State and society.
