Abstract

The major cities and their representatives constitute a more direct channel of communication with national political circle, which makes them a political segment placed between two spheres of representation. The aim of this paper is to distinguish between who forms part of the urban political elite and who forms part of the national political elite, before examining how individuals act and what their representative activity consists of. Since a large number of political careers start at the local level and culminate on the stage of national politics, the degree of interaction between these two political scenarios offer a framework for contrasting the composition of the Spanish elite.
