Abstract

This article consists of a comparative study of the spaces and procedures through which the reform of the institutional bases of labor union corporativism in Mexico and Brazil is passing. The characteristics of the old models of labor regulation are examined as well as the problems and opportunities for replacing them with others that are inclusive and, at the same time, compatible with the need for competitiveness and the demands of democracy. The similarities and differences that emerge from this analysis are useful in highlighting the innovating or conservative behavior of the social and political actors in each case, as well as that of the respective governments.
