Abstract

In order to reconstruct an overview of Latin America labor, this paper refers to some recent analyses of the area’s occupational problems. We emphasize two labor phenomena that are intrinsically related: the impact of production restructuring in the labor market, and the increasingly precarious working conditions. After discussing the theoretical lines that have supported the analysis of how the Latin American labor market works, and the main features of the labor market before the 80’s, we analyze the economic changes introduced during the 80’s and the newer labor transformations. There are some considerations on the future transformation of the Latin American labor market.
