Gobernabilidad y transición democrática en México

Abstract

This essay looks at some of the "distortions" present in the debate about the transition to democracy. The basic elements of the transition "model" used to evaluate the case of Mexico are also retrieved, and the consequences of everlooking the problems of governability in academic analysis are demonstrated. This permits the "bifrontal" nature of the transition in Mexico to be revealed, which forces a consideration not only of the axis that runs from authoritarianism to democracy but also of the conditions for an efficient exercise of political power.
